Mystery Mouse-ke-tool by thweatted Mystery Mouse-ke-tool by thweatted
Trying to learn how to draw a better Mickey Mouse by sketching headshots from Mickey Mouse Clubhouse, which is a CG kiddie show starring Mickey and friends for those who don't know. Over the course of the 3 pages I find that the sketches are becoming less stiff.

We got ears

The sad thing is, I actually like to watch that show and I'm turning 18 :ohnoes:

I can't help it, the style is new yet the catch frais and everything are old. I love the way Mickey says "Hot Dog" when something goes his way :)

Well i have teh thank ye guy-person-girl-thing... For, with the help of these sketches, i have somehow, magically, gained the ablility to draw mickey whilst trying to copy these sketches. And drawing Mickey is something i have tried and failed for many a year..... *sigh* now if i could just draw other peeps like Donald and Goofy........

thankies

I know right! For some reason, I magically get better at drawing when I have something to use for reference. And Donald and Goofy are sooooo hard! :ohnoes:

Naw, Donald and Goofy are easy! I still can't draw Mickey, he's about the hardest character to draw of all times... It drives me nuts!
Quite some nice sketches in here! Though I'm not sure if a 3D model would be the right thing to use as a reference. Two tips: Mickeys ears are as big as his fists, and his 'snout-line' starts in the middle of his face, between his eyes.

Cool Mickey! This is the ONLY way to draw Disney's Top Mouse without the need for Pixels ;)

Awesome Mickey, dude! For some reason, I've always found it hard to draw him, even though he's so simple.... Curse my wretched fingers!

Awesome. So do like this style of drawing his eyes better? I personally like the old style where itís just the black ovals.

You should try drawing Donald.

I could go either way with the eyes, but I think I prefer the newer ones.
I have Daisy ref pics but no Donalds for some reason. I got a disk. I better get savin'.

Mickey's perpetually equal-sized ears drive me nuts. How dot hey pull that off in CG without having the Ears litterally change location (as they seem to do when you compare many positions as you've done here)

His ears make even less sense in a 3d space. Since they're solid black you can't see exactly how they are, but they look completely flat. They tend to slide around. Like if he turns his head from left to right they'll slide from one side around the top to the other side. In Mickey's Speeday USA for N64 they do a similar thing. It doesn't make sense but I guess they have to in order for Mickey to look like he does in 2d.

Hm, so some 3-d versions of Mickey attempt to maintain this trend (ahhh, iconography ^__^ )

I recall taking a week long animation seminar at the Disney Institute a few years back and they were just adamant about the size and placement of his ears.

Pssssh, who needs reality!?!? Is a talking mouse with a pet dog reality? No. So why should the ears be realistic? THE EARS ROCK!!!!

:P oh right, But then they gotta input a bit of reality there somewhere, or else they'll have a dog walking around in clothes :D....oh...wait

Apparently back in the day there was a brief period where Mickey was animated with three dimensional ears. The response to this was so overwhelmingly negative that they quickly changed them back. =)
